Introducing The Laguna School, appearing for the first time in Berlin with the collective exhibition Retrospainting, curated by Juan Carlos Betancourt. This is the result of an exercise in which the artists, as observers of themselves, focus on the phenomenon of the de-centering of subjectivity, set in motion by post-modernism and encouraged by the systematic uprooting of people worldwide. Using a process of retrospection in their artistic practice, Alby Álamo, Francisco Castro, Pipo Hernández, Ubay Murillo, José Otero, Miguel Ángel Pascual and Martin & Sicilia reveal the ever-widening gap between figure and background or, in other words, the contemporary individual and his or her history.
